Double-strand DNA breaks are the most severe damage to the genome and the main genetic cause of a cell division delay despite their relatively low frequency of occurrence. After fertilization, the sperm with double-strand DNA breaks poses an increased risk of delay in the zygote development and its death before and after implantation (the “ingrowth” of an embryo into the uterine mucosa), which manifests itself in the form of infertility and pregnancy loss. Indications for the study: infertility for unknown reasons and habitual pregnancy loss in the case of normal values of sperm DNA fragmentation.
