Are oral contraceptives safe for you? Genetic testing of some of your genotype genes is a key tool that makes it possible to answer this question.
In women, taking oral contraceptives, the risk of thrombosis is increased by 6-9 times in the case of the GA genotype carriage; and AA genotype puts you at risk by 30 times!
Mutations of the F2 and F5 genes (II and V blood clotting factors) pose a serious danger to women using oral contraceptives. The risk allele A of any of these genes can be the basis for the development of thrombosis in the veins of lower extremities, cerebral (brain) vessel thrombosis, arterial thrombosis at a young age, an ischemic stroke and pregnancy disorders. The use of oral contraceptives is indicated in the case of normal GG genotypes in relation to both genes.
