National Coordination Centre on Access to Genetic Resources & Benefit-sharing

The Centre was established in 2014 to ensure the effective participation of the Republic of Belarus in addressing the issues of access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their utilization within the framework of the UN Convention on Biological Diversity and the Nagoya Protocol.

Priority areas of activity:

  • Collection, analysis and systematization of information on the legislation and genetic resources of the Republic of Belarus, which may be accessed by stakeholders;
  • Determining a legal procedure for accessing the genetic resources of the Republic of Belarus and their use, including sharing of benefits arising from their utilization within the framework of national legislation;
  • Providing information to stakeholders on the administrative mechanism for access to genetic resources and determining mutually agreed terms of their use;
  • Monitoring the use of genetic resources of the Republic of Belarus (Checkpoint functions);
  • Information exchange with the Coordination Centres of other countries and international organizations on access to genetic resources and benefit-sharing;
  • Constant liaison with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity and participation in the Access and Benet-sharing Clearing-House under the Nagoya Protocol;
  • Organizing and holding of international and national workshops and other events on the implementation of the Nagoya Protocol.
